Respiro.

THE SERIES

Where matter makes room for emptiness.

Respiro emerged from the research that led me, beginning in 2013, to use light as an integral part of sculpture. Woven stainless-steel wire creates figures and forms without enclosing them: matter establishes a presence while allowing empty space to continue passing through it.

In these works, light is not used to illuminate the sculpture from outside. The weave itself becomes luminous, transforming the perception of form and unsettling the boundaries between body and space, matter and immateriality, presence and dissolution.

The title Respiro (“Breath”) arises from this condition. The figures seem to occupy space without ever fully separating from it: air, light and emptiness pass through them. Flowers, butterflies, nests and other natural elements appear around the body—not as mere scenery, but as part of the same idea of transformation, fragility and movement.

Created between 2015 and 2018, the works mark a period in my research in which sculpture became less a mass placed in space and more a place the gaze can pass through, where matter, emptiness and light coexist.
